The Arete Prep CHARGERS's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their third straight loss. They were dealt a 58-12 loss at the hands of Miami. Arete Prep has not had much luck with Miami recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Arete Prep still got an impressive performance from Grace Howell, who scored 12 points. That was a full 100% of Arete Prep's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Miami's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Demetria Dosela, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 13 rebounds. Dosela is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tamia Pietila, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and five steals.
Arete Prep has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-18 record this season. As for Miami, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 18-4.
Arete Prep will head out on the road to face off against San Carlos at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. San Carlos presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Arete Prep in Arizona (San Carlos is ranked 61st, while Arete Prep is ranked 248th). As for Miami, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Coolidge at 5:30 p.m. on January 27th. Coolidge is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
