Two dominant signal callers in Bodee Maslak and Carson Dixon are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Tonganoxie Chieftains will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Basehor-Linwood Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Tonganoxie comes in on three and Basehor-Linwood on five.
Tonganoxie is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Bonner Springs 42-0 on Friday. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Chieftains with their most commanding win of the season.
The critical scores for Tonganoxie came from Blake Riedel, Kipton Harder, Silas McCloy, Maslak, Paxton Summers, and Brady Martin.
Meanwhile, Basehor-Linwood blew past West, posting a 63-6 win. With the Bobcats ahead 49-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.
Basehor-Linwood found their leader in sophomore Gavin Mitchell, who rushed for 76 yards and two scores on only seven carries.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Basehor-Linwood, racking up 15 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Noah Gutierrez, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Tonganoxie's victory bumped their record up to 4-1. As for Basehor-Linwood, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. Tonganoxie has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 155.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Basehor-Linwood struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 193.2 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Tonganoxie was dealt a bruising 44-6 loss at the hands of Basehor-Linwood in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Dixon, who threw for 373 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 12.4 yards per attempt, and also rushed for 66 yards and one TD on only seven carries.
