Basketball Recap: Archbishop Mccarthy Picks Up Fourth Consecutive Win

Archbishop McCarthy had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 14 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Thursday. They took down the Mater Lakes Academy Bears 60-46. For the Mavericks, this counts as revenge for the 76-40 victory the Bears walked away with the last time they faced one another back in November of 2021.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Archbishop McCarthy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Okafor, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Okafor a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Brody Coffin, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards.

Archbishop McCarthy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 24 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in four consecutive matches.

Mater Lakes Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Tai Bell, who posted 22 points in addition to eight boards and three steals. Bell is crushing it when it comes to points: he's scored at least 22 every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Aidan Spenkuch, who had 11 points in addition to seven boards and three steals.

Archbishop McCarthy has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Mater Lakes Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-5.

Archbishop McCarthy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 60-48 loss against Reagan on the 17th. As for Mater Lakes Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 62-49 defeat against Miami on the 16th.
