The result came thanks to Jayden Peters's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Lorenzo Collazo was excellent, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryan Bernwanger, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Lincoln kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in six consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, San Jose had to endure a four-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Overfelt by a score of 13-9 on Thursday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the match before.
Ethan Yanez was a standout: he got on base in all four of his plate appearances with five stolen bases and three runs. He has become a key player for San Jose: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two stolen bases, but 2-11 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cypress Funes, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases and two runs.
Lincoln pushed their record up to 14-4 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for San Jose, their win bumped their record up to 5-11.
San Jose's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lincoln hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for San Jose, though, as they've only averaged .218. Will they be able to contain Lincoln's hitters?
Lincoln took their victory against San Jose in their previous meeting back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 19-0 score. Will the Lions repeat their success, or do the Bulldogs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
