Lincoln Southeast is 2-8 against Kearney since October of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Knights will welcome the Bearcats at 5:00 p.m. Lincoln Southeast has given up an average of 10.8 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Lincoln Southeast and Lincoln North Star faced off in a cross-town battle on Saturday. The Knights lost 11-3 to the Navigators.
Raina Waller made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Makhya Jay was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
Meanwhile, while Kearney put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Gering. The Bearcats blew past the Bulldogs 13-0. Considering the Bearcats have won 14 games by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Avery Longshore was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 14 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexa Jacobsen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in August. Another player making a difference was Kennedy Lee, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Kearney always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .591. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gering only posted an OBP of .364.
Kearney has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Lincoln Southeast, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-22.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lincoln Southeast hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .318. However, it's not like Kearney struggles in that department as they've averaged .412. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
