The Lafayette Christian Cougars will square off against the Calvary Christian Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in Lafayette Christian's favor as the team sits on three straight wins at home while Calvary Christian has been banged up by three consecutive losses on the road.
It was a proper cat-fight when Lafayette Christian duked it out with Trinity Christian School of Griffin on Friday. The Cougars put the hurt on the LIONS with a sharp 12-2 win. The result was nothing new for the Cougars, who have now won 11 games by six runs or more so far this season.
The team relied heavily on Josiah Hughes, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Keaton Murphy, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
Lafayette Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Christian School of Griffin only posted an OBP of .304.
Meanwhile, Calvary Christian wound up with the same score they had in their last game (3-2), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time.
Calvary Christian also got a good showing from Braxton Wilkinson, who pitched 2.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Wilkinson has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Tripp Ellison made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double.
Calvary Christian's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Lafayette Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 16-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Lafayette Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Calvary Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Lafayette Christian couldn't quite get it done against Calvary Christian in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 as they fell 6-1. Will the Cougars have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more baseball content.
