Ontario Christian has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Aquinas Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Ontario Christian knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 contests -- so hopefully the Falcons like a good challenge.
Ontario Christian stacked a 15th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Wednesday. They breezed by Fairmont Prep at home to the tune of 87-46. The contest was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point Ontario Christian had established a 34 point advantage.
Karsen Marshall and Kaleena Smith were among the main playmakers for Ontario Christian as the former dropped a double-double on 25 points and 12 rebounds and the latter shot 9-for-18 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 41 points and ten assists. Smith is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 24 or more in the last 18 games she's played. Another player making a difference was Amanda Ajobiewe, who scored 13 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Aquinas can now show off 13 landslide victories after their most recent game on Tuesday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Arrowhead Christian 58-14 on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Aquinas who now have three in a row.
It was another big night for Breanna Bates, who scored 24 points along with five rebounds and four steals. She has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Madeleine De Kodia, who scored 15 points along with five assists and four steals.
Ontario Christian's win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 24-3. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 96.4 points per game. As for Aquinas, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 21-6 record this season.
Friday's contest will pit two of the most dominant guards against one another: Smith and Bates. Smith has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 35.3 points, 4.3 steals, and 6.5 assists. For her part, Bates has averaged 18.2 points, 1.6 steals, and 6.3 rebounds.
Everything came up roses for Ontario Christian against the Falcons in their previous matchup back in January as the squad secured a 85-38 win. With Ontario Christian ahead 44-24 at the half, the match was all but over already.
