After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Steele Canyon, the Mount Miguel Matadors were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They managed a 57-52 victory over San Ysidro. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for Mount Miguel's 12-point performance the matchup before.
Mount Miguel found their leader in underclassman Jaylene Hughes, who dropped a double-double on 49 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Mackenzie Cook, who scored six points.
Despite the loss, San Ysidro saw an underclassman step up: Kristine Fadriquela scored 22 points. Fadriquela scored a full 42.3% of San Ysidro's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Michelle Padilla was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
The victory got Mount Miguel back to even at 1-1. As for San Ysidro, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mount Miguel will take on Santana at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
