The Jeannette Jayhawks struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (the St. Joseph Spartans had 20 more) and sadly the final score reflected it. The New Year welcomed Jeannette with a 56-28 whooping from St. Joseph. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Jeannette in their matchups with St. Joseph: they've now lost five in a row.
Jeannette's loss came despite strong showings from Adriana Allison and Venicia Vignoli. Allison scored 13 points, while Vignoli scored seven points along with four steals and four blocks. Those four blocks set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Navarah Smith, who scored three points along with eight rebounds.
St. Joseph's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Julie Spinelli, who scored 19 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Spinelli's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Anna Kreinbrook, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 rebounds.
Jeannette's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-4. As for St. Joseph, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-2.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jeannette will take on Riverview at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for St. Joseph, they will be playing at home against Hillel Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Hillel Academy is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
