The Shafter Generals had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 47.3 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They strolled past Porterville with points to spare, taking the game 57-42.
Shafter found their leader in underclassman Kyla Schooley, who scored 18 points along with 8 rebounds. The game was Schooley's third in a row with at least ten points. Alexia Ramirez was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with 5 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Porterville saw an underclassman step up: Ryleigh Schoonover scored 19 points along with 9 rebounds and 4 blocks. Schoonover scored a full 45.2% of Porterville's points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Amaya Cortez, who scored 8 points along with 6 rebounds.
Shafter has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Porterville, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-3.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shafter has the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome Centennial at 1:30 p.m. on December 9th. Centennial is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games. Porterville and Redwood will face off at 10:30 a.m. on December 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Redwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Friday.
