South Elgin has gone a perfect 10-0 against Elgin recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Storm will welcome the Maroons at 4:30 p.m. South Elgin is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when South Elgin and West Aurora meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Storm never let the Blackhawks get on the board and left with a 3-0 victory.
Zacharia Barkho was excellent, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Elgin hadn't done well against Streamwood recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Maroons sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Sabres. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Maroons.
Ivan Magdaleno spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on one hit and racked up seven Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Elgin's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 3-1 (and 2-9 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, Elgin's victory was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Matt Caldwell, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run. That's the most RBI Caldwell has posted since April 6th.
Elgin's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for South Elgin, their victory bumped their record up to 14-5.
Elgin's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: South Elgin hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .353. It's a different story for Elgin, though, as they've only averaged .256. Will they be able to contain South Elgin's hitters?
South Elgin got the 'W' when the teams last played two weeks ago against Elgin by a conclusive 22-1 score. Do the Storm have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Maroons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
