The Aquinas Academy Crusaders have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four matchups by 28 points or more this season. They simply couldn't be stopped on Thursday as they easily beat Belle Vernon 51-16 at home. Despite the win, that was the fewest points Aquinas Academy has scored all season.
Aquinas Academy's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Violet Johnson, who scored seven points along with ten rebounds and five blocks. Johnson is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ellie Junker, who scored eight points along with four steals.
The win (which was Aquinas Academy's third in a row) raised their record to 9-1. As for Belle Vernon, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-5.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aquinas Academy will play host again and welcome Union Area, where tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Area will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings (they are ranked 166th, while Aquinas Academy is ranked 37th). As for Belle Vernon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Uniontown at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
