The Buckingham Charter Knights lost against the Cristo Rey Saints back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Buckingham Charter fell 31-19 to Cristo Rey. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Buckingham Charter in their matchups with Cristo Rey: they've now lost three in a row.
Leading Cristo Rey to victory were Regina Antillo and Angelina Cortes. Antillo scored ten points, while Cortes scored 15 points. The contest was Cortes' seventh in a row with at least ten points.
Buckingham Charter bumped their record down to 1-5 with that defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 9.5 points per game. As for Cristo Rey, their win ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buckingham Charter won't have much time to rest: their next match is against John Adams Academy at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. As for Cristo Rey, they will be playing at home against Sacramento Country Day at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Sacramento Country Day comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
