Basketball Recap: CORE Butte Falls Despite Big Games from Lali Gonzalez and Brianna Hayes

CORE Butte was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their sixth straight defeat. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-36 heartbreaker at the hands of the Los Molinos Bulldogs. The Lynx were not able to make up for their loss to the Bulldogs from their previous meeting back in January of 2024.

CORE Butte's loss came despite strong showings from Brianna Hayes and Lali Gonzalez. Hayes posted 14 points, while Gonzalez put up ten points. Those 14 points gave Hayes a new career-high.

Natalie Martinez continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Los Molinos, putting up 17 points. The contest was Martinez's third in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Mckenna Mischelle, who scored nine points.

CORE Butte's defeat dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Los Molinos, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season.

CORE Butte wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 43-36 win against Princeton on the 16th. As for Los Molinos, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-34 loss against Redding Christian on the 17th.
