The Escondido Charter Tigers will head out on the road to face off against the Coastal Academy Stingrays at 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Escondido Charter sitting on 13 straight wins and Coastal Academy on four.
Escondido Charter came out on top against Tri-City Christian on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Tigers put the hurt on the Eagles with a sharp 14-5 victory. Considering the Tigers have won 15 contests by more than six runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Silas Telfer made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, Sam Romero was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Nathan Reyes was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
Escondido Charter kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least ten hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Coastal Academy got the win against Calvin Christian on Thursday by a conclusive 12-2. Considering the Stingrays have won nine games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Escondido Charter's win was their tenth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-1. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 17.2 runs over those games. As for Coastal Academy, their record is now 15-8.
Everything went Escondido Charter's way against Coastal Academy in their previous meeting back in March, as Escondido Charter made off with an 11-4 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
