The El Toro Chargers won against the Mission Viejo Diablos last Thursday with 60 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Tuesday. El Toro simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Mission Viejo 60-14 at home. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-12.
Leading El Toro to victory were Mia Cubacub and Mariana Mina. Cubacub scored 20 points, while Mina scored 23 points along with five assists and two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Mina has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Michelle Galan escobar, who scored no points along with 12 rebounds and five steals.
Mission Viejo's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Sofia Gozzo, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds. That was a full 50% of Mission Viejo's points, marking the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Harper, who scored five points along with five rebounds.
El Toro has been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-7 record this season. As for Mission Viejo, they dropped their record down to 7-15 with that defeat, which was their fourth straight on the road.
El Toro will be playing at home against Dana Hills at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Dana Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three contests -- so hopefully El Toro likes a good challenge. As for Mission Viejo, they will head out on the road to square off against Capistrano Valley at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Capistrano Valley has now lost seven straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since December 15.
