The Tucson High Magnet School Badgers can now show off 14 landslide victories after their most recent matchup on Tuesday. They blew past Rincon/University 94-66 on the road. The victory was familiar territory for Tucson High Magnet School who now have 18 in a row.
Tucson High Magnet School's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tavion Okougbo, who scored 21 points along with two steals. It was the first time this season that Okougbo scored 15 or more points. Another player making a difference was Xavier Grajeda Cruz, who scored 18 points.
Despite the defeat, Rincon/University had strong showings from Sam O'Dowd, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten rebounds, and Zaire Hays, who scored 21 points along with eight rebounds. O'Dowd has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last five times he's played. Abel Munoz-McDaniels was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with five assists.
Tucson High Magnet School's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 22-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 75.2 points per game. As for Rincon/University, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-15.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tucson High Magnet School will challenge the Blue Devils at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyside will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 156th, while the Badgers are ranked 28th). As for Rincon/University, they will head out on the road to square off against the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Marana is coming into the match on a five-game losing streak.
