The Springfield Senators are taking a road trip to take on the Litchfield Purple Panthers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
If Springfield beats Litchfield with nine runs on Saturday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. Springfield walked away with a 9-4 victory over Springfield Southeast on Wednesday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Senators.

Tyler Elliott made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero walks, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was even better at the plate, scoring two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Those two runs gave him a new career-high.
In other pitching news, Karter Marks looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk).
Back at the plate, Wade Snyder was excellent, going 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was A.J. Ozier, who scored two runs while going 1-for-3.
Springfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Springfield Southeast only posted an OBP of .333.
Meanwhile, Litchfield entered their tilt with Mt. Pulaski on Friday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Hilltoppers 10-2. Ten seems to be a good number for the Purple Panthers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
Ethan Saathoff made a splash while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Saathoff was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Saathoff wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Max Leitschuh, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
Litchfield's victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.4 runs. As for Springfield, their record is now 2-0.
Springfield beat Litchfield 6-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Springfield since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
