Montini Catholic and St. Francis are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2016, but likely not for long. The Broncos will take on the Spartans at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Montini Catholic has six straight wins, St. Francis has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Saturday, Montini Catholic got the win against Leo by a conclusive 14-2. The result was nothing new for the Broncos, who have now won 11 matchups by six runs or more so far this season.

Santino Mateja looked comfortable as he struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on John Louise, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 12 contests. Nick Mandra was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Montini Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Leo only posted an OBP of .364.
Meanwhile, St. Francis didn't have quite enough to beat Saint Ignatius College Prep on Saturday and fell 4-3.
St. Francis also got a good showing from Jose Samienago, who tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. That's the fewest hits Samienago has allowed over his last four games.
At the plate, St. Francis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was James Mcgrath, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI.
Montini Catholic's record is now 18-10. As for St. Francis, their defeat dropped their record down to 15-12.
Montini Catholic suffered a grim 7-1 defeat to St. Francis in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Broncos avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
