Sandia is 8-1 against Farmington since February of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Sandia Matadors will stay at home for another game and welcome the Farmington Scorpions at 7:00 p.m. on February 9th. Sandia knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past 18 matchups -- so hopefully Farmington likes a good challenge.
Last Wednesday, Sandia faced West Mesa in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sandia suffered a tough 87-66 defeat at the hands of West Mesa. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Sandia might have lost, but man, Thomas Adams was a machine: he scored 32 points along with six rebounds and three steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Adams has scored all season. Jahmil Crayton Johnson was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Farmington had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They enjoyed a cozy 71-53 win over Piedra Vista on Tuesday. Given Farmington's advantage in MaxPreps' New Mexico basketball rankings (they are ranked 15th, while Piedra Vista is ranked 98th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Sandia's defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 13-8. As for Farmington, their victory bumped their record up to 17-4.
Sandia came up short against Farmington in their previous matchup back in January, falling 77-72. Will Sandia have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other basketball content.
