The Libertyville Wildcats will head out to take on the Hoffman Estates Hawks at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Libertyville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.3 runs per game this season.
Libertyville will bounce into Wednesday's game after beating Glenbrook North, who they had gone 0-6 against in their six prior meetings. The Wildcats walked away with a 5-1 win over the Spartans on Saturday. Winning may never get old, but the Wildcats sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Anthony Fry and Nico Harper dominated on the mound. Fry pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit, while Harper tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Harper has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cole Lockwood was incredible, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Quinn Schambow was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run.
Meanwhile, Hoffman Estates had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top against Waukegan by a score of 5-1 on Monday.
Tyler Dillon was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has become a key player for Hoffman Estates: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least eight strikeouts, but 7-23 otherwise. Dillon was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colin Schoewe, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two runs. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Niko Belesiotis also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Libertyville's record now sits at 29-4. As for Hoffman Estates, their record is now 9-24.
Hoffman Estates' pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Libertyville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .340. It's a different story for Hoffman Estates, though, as they've only averaged .237. Will they be able to contain Libertyville's hitters?
Everything went Libertyville's way against Hoffman Estates in their previous meeting back in April of 2019, as Libertyville made off with a 9-2 victory. Do the Wildcats have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hawks turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
