Even though the Armstrong River Hawks scored an imposing 62 points on Friday, the Shaler Area Titans still came out on top. Shaler Area took their game against Armstrong 73-62. Given Shaler Area's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked fifth, while Armstrong is ranked 197th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Armstrong lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jacob Szep, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Szep scored 15 or more points. Isaiah Riggle was another key contributor, scoring 19 points.
Armstrong struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only two offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Shaler Area's win bumped their record up to 13-1. As for Armstrong, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Shaler Area will take on Fox Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fox Chapel is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 51.3 points per game. As for Armstrong, they will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Knoch at 7:30 p.m.
