The Hughson Huskies came tearing into Tuesday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took down Hilmar 48-33. Given Hughson's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 279th, while the Yellowjackets are ranked 730th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
It was another big night for Madi Duron, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 11 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below two steals for 16 straight games. Kareena Kang was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with two steals.
Several Yellowjackets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emma Gomes, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Alicia Souza, who scored eight points along with 12 rebounds and two blocks.
Hughson has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. As for Hilmar, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-11.
Hughson will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Riverbank will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. As for Hilmar, they will head out on the road to challenge the Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ripon Christian is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
