The Sweetwater Wildcats''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight loss. They and Polk County were almost perfectly matched up, but Sweetwater suffered an agonizing 29-28 defeat. Sweetwater was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Polk County apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2020.
Damien McWilliams was the offensive standout of the contest as he rushed for 91 yards on only 12 carries, and also picked up 87 receiving yards.
Sweetwater's loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 7-2 McMinn Central and 6-3 Stone Memorial (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63% over those games). As for Polk County, their win bumped their record up to 4-5.
Sweetwater will look to defend their home field on Thursday against Brainerd at 7:30 p.m. Brainerd and Sweetwater are at an even 3-3 over their past six head-to-heads. As for Polk County, they will head out on the road to face off against York Institute at 7:00 p.m. on October 27th. York Institute will be coming into the contest with an undefeated record on the line.
