Basketball Game Preview: Kiski Area Cavaliers vs. Greensburg Salem Golden Lions

Kiski Area is 3-0 against Greensburg Salem since December of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Thursday. The Kiski Area Cavaliers will head out on the road to challenge the Greensburg Salem Golden Lions at 7:30 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Kiski Area will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Armstrong, who they had gone 0-9 against in their nine prior meetings. Kiski Area came out on top against Armstrong by a score of 41-31 on Wednesday. Given the Cavaliers' advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 227th, while the River Hawks are ranked 491st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Greensburg Salem posted their closest win since December 22, 2023 on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 38-36 victory over McKeesport.

Greensburg Salem's win came from a few key players Kiski Area will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Regan Kerr, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten boards. That's the most points she has posted since back in December of 2023. Patty Redinger was another key player, putting up five points along with five assists and three steals.

Greensburg Salem smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive matchups.

Kiski Area pushed their record up to 9-5 with the win, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 25.0 points per game. As for Greensburg Salem, their victory bumped their record up to 9-7.

Kiski Area was able to grind out a solid win over Greensburg Salem in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, winning 38-25. The rematch might be a little tougher for Kiski Area since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
