Calaveras extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 7-15 in the process. They fell 9-6 to the Bret Harte Bullfrogs. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Bullfrogs this season, with their most recent loss being a 6-5 defeat on Tuesday.
Jett Kesterson was huge no matter where he played even without the win. He didn't allow a single earned run over 4.2 innings pitched. Furthermore, he didn't allow a single earned run, the first time he has blanked an opponent since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Evan Janssen was cooking despite his team's loss, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another player making a difference was Cohen Curran, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
As for Bret Harte, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
Like Calaveras, Bret Harte also got a great game from a two-way player: Jack Trent. On the mound, he struck out eight batters over 3.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Trent was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.
Trent wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Landon Camacho, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Looking ahead, Calaveras will challenge Summerville at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Bears will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something the Red Hawks surely won't give up without a fight. As for Bret Harte, they will square off against Linden at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Bullfrogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
