Video: Top 10 Games of the Week(2) Centennial (Corona, Calif.) at Mater Dei (Santa Ana, Calif.)
Friday, 7:30 p.m. Pacific timeWhy it's big: This Pac-5 Division semifinal is the third meeting between these SoCal powers in the last two seasons.
After losing to the Monarchs during the regular season, Centennial beat Mater Dei along the way to winning its first Pac-5 crown last year. Overall, the Huskies have a 4-3 advantage all-time in games versus Mater Dei.
Mater Dei (10-2) overcame a 20-10 deficit to defeat Serra (Gardena), 28-27, in last week's quarterfinals. After recovering a botched punt snap for a touchdown, Mater Dei converted the game-deciding 2-point conversion on a pass from freshman quarterback
JT Daniels to senior
Curtis Robinson.
Centennial (12-0) was dominant, as usual, in its 49-27 quarterfinal win over Orange Lutheran. The second-ranked Huskies have won all their games by at least 21 points this season.
Names to watch: Robinson, who is committed to Stanford as a linebacker, is the No. 10 prospect in California according to 247Sports. Senior offensive tackle
Frank Martin II – a USC recruit – checks in at No. 34.
Centennial's highest-rated prospect is senior
Javon McKinley, an uncommitted receiver ranked the No. 17 prospect in California by 247Sports. McKinley has nearly 1,000 receiving yards and a 23 yards-per-catch average this season.
