The Gretna East Griffins's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Thursday after their sixth straight defeat. They fell just short of Elkhorn South by a score of 54-52. Gretna East found out winning isn't easy when you're outrebounded 10 to 3 on offense.
Gretna East lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Connor Levinson, who scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Levinson has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Drayke Brown, who scored 14 points.
Elkhorn South got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Lincoln Schwarz out in front who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine rebounds. Schwarz is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 15 or more in the last three games he's played. Aidan Skradis was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with six rebounds.
Gretna East's defeat was their seventh straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Elkhorn South, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 8-11.
Gretna East will play host again and welcome Lincoln High, where tip off is scheduled for 5:15 p.m. on Saturday. Gretna East has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Elkhorn South is on the road again on Saturday and plays Burke at 1:00 p.m. on February 10th. Elkhorn South is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.4 points per game this season.
