The Brea Olinda Wildcats lost against the Esperanza Aztecs two weeks ago, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. Brea Olinda took a 59-54 hit to the loss column at the hands of Esperanza. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Brea Olinda in their matchups with Esperanza: they've now lost five in a row.
Despite the loss, Brea Olinda still got an impressive performance from Mariah Henderson, who scored 20 points. Liz Han was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Leading Esperanza to victory were Bailey Frazier and Madilyn Lam. Frazier scored 19 points along with two blocks, while Lam scored 17 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Lam also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Charlotte Muller, who scored seven points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Brea Olinda's defeat dropped their record down to 9-17. As for Esperanza, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 21-4 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Brea Olinda will challenge Villa Park at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Villa Park is coming into the game hot, having won their last five games. Esperanza will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Yorba Linda at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th. Yorba Linda will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 263rd, while Esperanza is ranked 42nd).
