Baseball Recap: Piedmont Hills Has No Trouble Against Evergreen Valley

Piedmont Hills won the last time they faced Evergreen Valley and things went their way on Thursday too. The Pirates put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 12-5 victory. Considering the Pirates have won seven matchups by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Jake Paskert and Christian Bustamante made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Paskert pitched five innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Meanwhile, Bustamante pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Piedmont Hills is 4-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 4-5 otherwise. At bat, Paskert scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Bustamante scored a run while going 1-for-3. That's the most stolen bases Paskert has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Alex Tran was a standout: he scored two runs while going 3-for-4. He has become a key player for Piedmont Hills: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Toby Torres, who scored two runs while going 1-for-4.

Piedmont Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .433. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Piedmont Hills now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Evergreen Valley, their loss was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 5-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Piedmont Hills will venture away from home to take on Willow Glen at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Evergreen Valley, they will head out to challenge Oak Grove at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
