The Westview Wolverines will venture away from home to challenge the Canyon Crest Academy Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Westview's pitching crew has only allowed 3.8 runs per game this season, so Canyon Crest Academy's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Westview barely beat Valley Center the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. Westview never let Valley Center get on the board and left with a 7-0 win on Monday. The Wolverines haven't had any issues with the Jaguars recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
Jacob Kuy made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over six innings pitched. Those two hits allowed gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ethan Holeman, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Mahir Desai, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, the third road contest was the charm for Canyon Crest Academy, as they earned their first road win of the season. They had just enough and edged out Oceanside 3-2.
Jinho Bae looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off one hit. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Ryan Shah was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Canyon Crest Academy's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-0-1 (and 1-3 when he doesn't). Henry Schmidt was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one RBI.
Westview now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Canyon Crest Academy, their win ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3-1.
Everything went Westview's way against Canyon Crest Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2023, as Westview made off with a 13-4 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Westview since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
