Baseball Recap: Wilcox County's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Wilcox County has relied on a stalwart pitchers averaging 2.41 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit on Thursday. They came out on top against the Tiftarea Academy Panthers by a score of 17-12. The victory was nothing new for the Patriots as they're now sitting on six straight.

Bo Bloodworth and Tre Griffin made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Bloodworth tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Griffin pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. At bat, Bloodworth scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4, while Griffin scored a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Deacon McDuffie was incredible, going 4-for-6 with four RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Talon McKinney, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Wilcox County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Wilcox County's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 13-4. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.3 runs over those games. As for Tiftarea Academy, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-10.

Coming up, Wilcox County will square off against Treutlen at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Tiftarea Academy will be paying especially close attention to the Patriots' game: after the Patriots faces off against the Vikings, they'll take on Tiftarea Academy again at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
