The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders lost to the Carlsbad Lancers back in February of 2022, but the Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders didn't allow the Carlsbad Lancers the same satisfaction on Wednesday. Mater Dei Catholic walked away with a 59-48 win over Carlsbad. The win was all the more spectacular given Mater Dei Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 451st, while Carlsbad is ranked 197th).
Mater Dei Catholic's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Promise Martin led the charge by scoring 12 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Martin hasn't dropped below two steals for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Valentina Aranalde, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.
The win makes it two in a row for Mater Dei Catholic and bumps their season record up to 4-5. As for Carlsbad, their loss dropped their record down to 10-3.
Mater Dei Catholic's road trip will continue as they head out to face Heritage at 7:30 p.m. on December 28th. Hopefully Heritage focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Wednesday. Carlsbad won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Woodbridge at 4:30 p.m. on December 28th. One thing working in Woodbridge's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
