Basketball Game Preview: Mesquite Wildcats vs. Saguaro Sabercats

Mesquite has gone 10-0 against Saguaro recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Mesquite Wildcats will head out to challenge the Saguaro Sabercats at 7:00 p.m. Mesquite knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Saguaro likes a good challenge.

Mesquite is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Cactus Shadows: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Mesquite blew Cactus Shadows out of the water with an 85-22 final score. The Wildcats have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 16 games by 24 points or more this season.

Navae Guidry continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, going 8 for 10 en route to 20 points along with seven boards and six assists. That's the most assists she has posted since back in January of 2024. Averi Mehlberg was another key player, going 6 of 9 on her way to 17 points.

Mesquite smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups dating back to last season.

Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Saguaro's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 65-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of St. Mary's.

Mesquite pushed their record up to 20-1 with the victory, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. As for Saguaro, they now have a losing record at 10-11.

Everything came up roses for Mesquite against Saguaro when the teams last played on January 7th, as the team secured an 87-25 win. In that contest, Mesquite amassed a halftime lead of 43-17, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Tuesday.
