Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Rio Mesa). They walked away with a 10-7 win over the Buena Bulldogs on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Damien Valdez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since back in February.
In other batting news, Daniel Banuelos was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two doubles. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Josh Cardenas, who scored two runs while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
