The Chaparral Pumas suffered their closest loss since December 30, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of Great Oak by a score of 53-50. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Chaparral in their matchups with Great Oak: they've now lost four in a row.
Zetta Faasua and Angela Dela Cruz certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Faasua scored 15 points along with eight rebounds and two steals, while Dela Cruz scored 14 points. Dela Cruz is trending in the right direction, as she's improved her point production for three games straight. Maya Ford was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 11 rebounds.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Great Oak to victory, but perhaps none more so than Morgan Grayton, who scored 20 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Grayton has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bri Thomas, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and three steals.
Chaparral's loss dropped their record down to 11-11. As for Great Oak, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games, which provided a massive bump to their 15-7 record this season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Chaparral will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against Murrieta Valley at 5:30 p.m. on January 30th. Murrieta Valley and Chaparral are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Great Oak, they will head out on the road to square off against Temecula Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Temecula Valley will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps California Rankings (they are ranked 436th, while Great Oak is ranked 211th).
