Columbia and Buchholz are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2019, but likely not for long. A feisty cat fight will be fought as Columbia Tigers challenge Buchholz Bobcats at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Last Tuesday, Columbia didn't have quite enough to beat Creekside and fell 5-4. The Tigers haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.
Columbia saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trayce McKenzie, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Buchholz put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. Everything went their way against Bishop Kenny as Buchholz made off with a 10-1 win. Considering the Bobcats have won six contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Dion Wilborn looked comfortable as he tossed 3.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Cedaris Smith was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, eight RBI, and two runs. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. The team also got some help courtesy of Kai So, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three doubles.
Buchholz kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.
Buchholz's victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-0. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Columbia, their loss dropped their record down to 7-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Columbia has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Buchholz struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Columbia suffered a grim 8-0 defeat to Buchholz in their previous meeting back in February. Will Columbia have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
