The Polytechnic Panthers will face off against the Hoover Tornados at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. Hoover took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Polytechnic, who comes in off a win.
Polytechnic barely beat de Toledo the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Panthers blew past the Jaguars 9-2 on Tuesday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Alejandro KohnRabassa and Caiden Kennedy were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, KohnRabassa struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Meanwhile, Kennedy pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. KohnRabassa is becoming a predictor of Polytechnic's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 2-8 when he doesn't). At bat, KohnRabassa went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI, while Kennedy went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three stolen bases, and four runs. That's the most runs Kennedy has posted since back in March of 2025.

In other batting news, Polytechnic let Noah LaPorte and Luke Phillips run wild. LaPorte went 1-for-3 with one home run, while Phillips went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Those two hits gave Phillips a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alex Chui, who went 1-for-3 with four RBI.
Polytechnic kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are 2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Hoover was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against Burroughs, falling 15-1.
Hoover also got a good showing from Daniel Cano, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero earned runs gave Cano a new career-low.
Hoover's loss dropped their record down to 4-8-1. As for Polytechnic, their win bumped their record up to 4-9.
Polytechnic got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 against Hoover by a conclusive 13-3 score. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Tornados turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
