The Torrance Tartars are taking a road trip to face off against the Woodrow Wilson Bruins at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Torrance barely beat El Rancho the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Tartars were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Dons on Saturday. The win was familiar territory for the Tartars, who have now won four contests in a row.
Noah Hernandez looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Hector Chavez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run. The team also got some help courtesy of Mateo Rickman, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Woodrow Wilson got themselves on the board against Roosevelt on Saturday, but Roosevelt never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Rough Riders with a sharp 8-0 victory. The Bruins might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Jaaden Romero tossed a big game, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Jax Core was incredible, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. Nathaniel Parris was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Woodrow Wilson is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Torrance, their record now sits at 16-9.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Torrance has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Woodrow Wilson struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Torrance's way against Woodrow Wilson when the teams last played back in March of 2021, as Torrance made off with an 8-2 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tartars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
