The Heritage Patriots had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They managed a 62-57 victory over Vanden. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Leading Heritage to victory were Ze'ni Patterson and Abby Livermore. Patterson scored 19 points along with six rebounds and three steals, while Livermore dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Livermore has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Mcclure, who scored nine points along with two steals.
When it comes to explaining why Vanden lost, one person who can't be blamed is Calonni Holloway. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with five assists and four steals. Holloway hasn't dropped below two steals for 17 straight games. Another player making a difference was Jakayla Gilmer, who scored three points along with eight rebounds and five steals.
Heritage pushed their record up to 16-8 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points per game. As for Vanden, their loss ended a eight-game streak of away wins and brought them to 18-8.
Heritage will stay at home for another game and welcome Freedom at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th. Heritage knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past three matchups -- so hopefully Freedom likes a good challenge. As for Vanden, they will head out on the road to take on Armijo at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Averaging 64.04 points so far this season, Vanden's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Armijo better be ready for a challenge.
