Nolan Nunes was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed six innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Josh Kaplan, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Thiago Quillin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
University City kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Mt. Carmel ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Venice 3-2.
Like University City, Mt. Carmel also got a great game from a two-way player: Isaac Reese. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Reese has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one stolen base.
Reese wasn't the only one making solid contact as two players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Carson Weber, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases.
University City pushed their record up to 22-12 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.3 runs over those games. As for Mt. Carmel, their record is now 23-12.
