The Odessa Bulldogs will take on the Albany Warriors in a tournament on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their contests after big wins in their previous games.
Albany will be up against a hot Odessa squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. The Bulldogs blew past Warrensburg 8-1 on Thursday.
Bella Blackaby spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on ten hits and racked up eight Ks.
On the hitting side, Odessa let Keely Byrd and Emery LaBoube run wild. Byrd got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while LaBoube went 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That's the most runs Byrd has posted since back in October of 2024. Jordyn Beal was another key player, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Albany). Everything went their way against North Harrison on Thursday as they made off with a 17-4 win. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Shamrocks: they've now won five in a row.
Makena Moffat was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with four runs, three RBI, and one triple.
In other batting news, Albany got a massive performance out of Whitney Sterkis, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Sterkis also hit a double, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Bunker, who went 1-for-5 with five RBI, one triple, and one run.
Odessa now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Albany, their record now sits at 18-2.
