Valhalla hasn't had much luck against Granite Hills recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Norsemen will face off against the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Valhalla took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 win over Helix. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Norsemen have posted against the Highlanders since April 17, 2015.
Jesse McCormick was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mace Wheeler, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double.
Meanwhile, Granite Hills strolled into their game on Thursday with an undefeated record and they left with the same. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Grossmont a 14-0 shutout. Considering the Eagles have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Granite Hills let Phillip Jones and Brodey Vicars run wild. Jones went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two doubles, and one run, while Vicars went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Anthony Miotti, who went 1-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Granite Hills kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in four consecutive contests.
Granite Hills' win was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-0-2. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.1 runs on average over those games. As for Valhalla, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-14 record.
Valhalla couldn't quite get it done against Granite Hills in their previous matchup back in June of 2021 as they fell 4-0. Can the Norsemen avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
