The Garey Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They blew past Pomona 67-21 at home. Considering Garey has won seven contests by more than 22 points this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Garey's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Armani Owens, who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds. That makes it 14 consecutive games in which Owens has scored at least 25% of Garey's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alyssa Herrera , who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.
Garey's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.7 points per game. As for Pomona, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-5.
Garey will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Edgewood at 4:45 p.m. on January 10, 2024. Pomona will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bassett at 4:45 p.m. on January 10, 2024. Bassett comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 16 points in their last three games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
