Brandon Ma made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 17 over seven innings pitched. Those 17 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and one stolen base.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Connor Uchida, who went 4-for-5 with three stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Nick Loew, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI.
Crystal Springs Uplands kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Pinewood, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Design Tech 5-3. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Panthers as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.
Jamie Burton spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Alakh Kapadia was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one run and one RBI.
Crystal Springs Uplands' victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Pinewood, their record now sits at 3-10.
Pinewood's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Monday. Crystal Springs Uplands has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.7 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Pinewood, though, as they've been averaging only 3.8 strikeouts. Will Crystal Springs Uplands keep running through batters, or will the Panthers buck the trend?
Crystal Springs Uplands came out on top in a nail-biter against Pinewood in their previous meeting back in February, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Gryphons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
