After a string of four wins, the East Nicolaus Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They fell just short of Winters by a score of 50-47. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss East Nicolaus has suffered since December 14, 2023.
East Nicolaus lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Rylee Gillespie, who scored 21 points along with four steals. Gillespie is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Makinze Massey, who scored ten points along with seven rebounds and five blocks.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Winters to victory, but perhaps none more so than Emily Dodic, who scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dodic has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Tucker, who scored 12 points.
East Nicolaus' loss dropped their record down to 11-7. As for Winters, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. East Nicolaus will take on Willows at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Winters, they will be playing at home against Colusa at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Colusa is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road.
