Mt. Eden is 8-2 against Hayward since January of 2015, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Wednesday. The Mt. Eden Monarchs just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Hayward Farmers at 6:30 p.m. on January 24th. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Mt. Eden has struggled recently with five defeats in a row, while Hayward will arrive with three straight wins.
On Tuesday, Mt. Eden ended up a good deal behind Castro Valley and lost 46-32. While losing is never fun, Mt. Eden can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1011th, while Castro Valley is ranked 470th).
Meanwhile, Hayward escaped with a win on Thursday against Arroyo by the margin of a single free throw, 50-49.
Mt. Eden has not been sharp recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-12 record this season. As for Hayward, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-8 record this season.
Mt. Eden came up short against Hayward in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 44-31. Can Mt. Eden avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
