The South Tahoe Vikings had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 21.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They walked away with a 36-24 win over Portola. Given South Tahoe's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 40th, while Portola is ranked 728th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Campbell Mathews continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, scoring 14 points along with nine rebounds. The matchup was her third in a row with at least ten points. Samantha Robinson was another key contributor, scoring three points along with ten rebounds and three steals.
South Tahoe now has a winning record of 7-6. As for Portola, their loss dropped their record down to 6-10.
South Tahoe will head out on the road to face off against McQueen at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully McQueen focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Thursday. Portola will finish 2023 at home by hosting Hug at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hug is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
