Urban has won three straight games at home, while University has won three straight on the road, but those streaks won't matter much on Tuesday. The Blues will welcome the Red Devils at 3:30 p.m. Urban is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.7 runs per game this season.
While Urban's win against Lick-Wilmerding wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Blues sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 victory over the Tigers on Friday.
Aaron Knupp and Conor Darling were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Knupp tossed two innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. Meanwhile, Darling pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. At the plate, Knupp went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Darling went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kaden Fox-Gabel, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, University put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Monday. They didn't even let Stuart Hall on the board, marking the Red Devils' second-straight 11-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Red Devils, who have now won nine contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Like Urban, University also got a great game from a two-way player: Tate Gebhart. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Gebhart has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in seven consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
In other batting news, Jett Messenger was a standout: he went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Matthew Foley was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple.
University was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. They are 9-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
University's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Urban, their victory bumped their record up to 14-4.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Urban hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .349. However, it's not like University struggles in that department as they've averaged .314. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Urban suffered a grim 14-1 defeat to University in their previous meeting back in May of 2025. Can the Blues avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
