The Riverside Prep Silver Knights will challenge the Village Christian Crusaders at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Riverside Prep's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Claremont with a sharp 14-0 victory. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Silver Knights.
Jacob Villegas tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over 4.2 innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Adrian Jorge was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-5. Andrew Logsdon was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last game, Village Christian made sure to put some runs up on the board against Milken on Thursday. Everything went Village Christian's way against Milken as Village Christian made off with a 14-3 win. The Crusaders' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Village Christian also got a great performance from Noah Choe as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
On the hitting side, Johan Pelayo was a standout: he went 2-for-5 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Nick Garcia, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Riverside Prep's victory was their 16th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-2. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Village Christian, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Riverside Prep has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Village Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.7 strikeouts.
